Update

While I have a second, I thought I would just give a mid-week update. School has so far been good for us all, aside from the load of homework I'm already getting and a math test I have scheduled for next week already (unfortunately, algrebra is NOT my area of scholastic brilliance.) The mess of clubs, sports and other after-school activites hasn't started yet, but will soon. Kristian is doing fall baseball and fencing and Carsten will be on the soccer team. I am currently busy with band, clubs, and soon I'll be starting tennis lessons in preparation for team tryouts in the spring. Needless to say, we are all already quite busy and I don't see a slow-down for a long time, and I'm fully convinced now time will fly until we get the referral.

But for the record, it's now been six weeks and three days of waiting.

First Day

Today was our first day back at school- the boys had no trouble starting; for me, I had mixed feelings. Despite the fact that the day seemed endless, I think all of us had a fairly successful day. Both boys had one friend from before in their classes, and Carsten especially liked his second grade teacher. I was pretty much fine (except for that I already have three homework assignments and a test scheduled for next week!) The only thing I'm really unhappy about is that many other schools, including the district we moved from, don't start until next Tuesday. Sigh. The thought that consoles me is that although we'll miss the summer, time must move forward in order for us to get closer to meeting our baby :-)

Funny/cute pic of the week

For anyone that didn't believe that TV had a numbing effect on children- I'm proving you wrong.

Blog quiz

I'm addicted to blogthings.com. I recently took the "how much do you know about blogs" quiz, and here are the results:

Well, You Know What a Blog Is...

You got 4/8 correct!
But, truthfully, most blogs probably bore you.
How Much Do You Know About Blogging?

Funny/cute pic of the week

Kristian's two favorite things: Kitties and "Calvin and Hobbes."

By the way, thanks for the reassuring comments on the wait times. It's hard, since I've been wanting this for so long- we all have- but with school starting, I know all of the things I'm involved in will occupy a lot of my time and thoughts. In fact, I started pre-season marching band practice last night, and although it's a lot of fun, it's also a lot of work. Not only do we have to learn all of the new music, we have to learn the complicated marching band steps for the football game shows. Whew!

We've already been waiting over a month, so I'm sure the next five or six (or seven) will go by in a flash. Hopefully.

Back again

We're back and we had a great trip! The weather was just beautiful- we stayed at a place on Lake Erie with some relatives, and the one day it was cloudy we had really big waves, which, I must admit, at my I still get very excited about. Now that we're back we have to face the fact that school starts in a week...but I've decided not to think about it until the night before the first day. Thanks for the comments- please keep them coming!

Oh, Canada!

I just wanted to say that my family is going to Canada for two weeks (we're leaving in a few hours) and I will most likely not have access to a computer during that time. I realize that for us, this has really been an on-the-go summer- we're trying to get all of our travelling in before the baby comes!

Worth the wait?

My mom sent an e-mail to Dove Adoptions because we'd read on the website that wait times for referrals were still only four months for infants, and we wanted to see if this was still true because wait times at our agency, Wide Horizons, are now 6-8 months and increasing rapidly. Well, we just got an e-mail back saying that wait times at Dove are 8-12 weeks!! We find this incredible and are so sorry we didn't know about this earlier! For anyone out there who has adopted/are in the process of adopting, what agency did you use/are you using, and what were/are the wait times? I know I said that I would refrain from thinking about adoption, but this I need to know!

Coco and Fifi are 1!

Today is Coco and Fifi's first birthday! I can't believe how fast the time has gone. I remember so clearly the day we got them...ten months ago today, in fact (they were exactly two months old when we brought them home.) They are supposed to be their full size now, but Fifi is still noticeably bigger than Coco. Still, both of them have grown a lot in the past ten months!
