Worth the wait?

My mom sent an e-mail to Dove Adoptions because we'd read on the website that wait times for referrals were still only four months for infants, and we wanted to see if this was still true because wait times at our agency, Wide Horizons, are now 6-8 months and increasing rapidly. Well, we just got an e-mail back saying that wait times at Dove are 8-12 weeks!! We find this incredible and are so sorry we didn't know about this earlier! For anyone out there who has adopted/are in the process of adopting, what agency did you use/are you using, and what were/are the wait times? I know I said that I would refrain from thinking about adoption, but this I need to know!

Hey Susanna. Thanks for commenting on my blog, I always like hearing nice things about my writing. However, I haven't really updated it since November, and I kind of fell out of the habit of writing in it.

But it was still great hearing from you, and if you ever want to reach me for anything while I'm at school, just send me a message. (MGoffeney@gmail.com)

I think that your heart (and God) draws you to the right agency. Your sister will be waiting at Wide Horizons for you. We have felt the same way hearing of shorter wait times elsewhere, but remember that there is something much bigger out there in control of it all and you will see that the child that enters your family will be the perfect fit and couldn't have come to you through any other agency. Hang in there.

Hey Susy Q

We're at Dove, and yes, the wait times are currently listed between 0-8 weeks. One of the last referrals at Dove was for 2 newborns, not siblings--it came 3 weeks after the paperwork arrived in Ethiopia. My paperwork has been in Addis since 8/4--I am waiting for an infant girl.

Glad to find your blog!

Hey there,

Though the wait is long three or eight months will seem like forever even a week would, when waiting for a baby. We have used WHFC two times and now have two beautiful enthipian child a little girl who came home in June 2004 and a little boy who just came home in May 2006. I say this so you know that it WILL happen and that your sister is just waiting for you to come and get her. She might not even be born yet =) So keep her spirit alive as you wait for her!!!!

Hey SuzyQ!
I found your blog after you commented on mine. I must say, it's extremely enlightening to read a sibling's perspective on adoption! Yes, the waiting seems unbearable, but indeed, God does draw the heart of the family to the agency where the child He has already chosen exists. We waited 3 months for the referral of two older siblings. After that, we've waited nearly 12 months and still don't know when we might bring them home. Even despite the difficulty, we know that we're in the right place at the right time with the right kids for our family. I wouldn't wish this kind of difficulty on anybody, but I also wouldn't trade it for the world. Begin praying for your sibling and his/her mother as well. Pray for their health. Pray for the mother. What a difficult thing to give up a baby. Your prayers will make a real difference. Good luck!
Heather
